Introduction

My name is Andrea Krygier and I’m a Registered Psychologist with almost 30 years of clinical experience. I approach each and every client with curiosity, warmth, empathy and respect. I have an honest passion for people and can’t see myself doing any other thing other than helping others live meaningful lives. I’m very sensitive to the fact that everyone is unique and it is of utmost importance to tailor my work to each and everyones' specific needs

Specifics

I provide clinical counselling in both English and Spanish.

I have the benefit of training under two complementary schools of counselling: the North American and European/South American approaches. The North American approach is characterized by a short-term and solution focused spirit, while the European/South American approach focuses more on the long-term and the root cause of clients’ presenting issues. This is an eclectic method that includes solution, cognitive-behavioural, narrative, social and psychoanalytical components to help people deal with their life challenges.

I like to refer to my work as a journey of Re-positioning, which is a way of empowering the client to see things differently, to identify positive choices before making decisions. I challenge their beliefs, their self-labelling, in order to free them from a fear of change.

I understand how important it is to not only provide solutions to clients’ problems but to give them the skills to work out future issues. I also look at external factors to behaviours and beliefs, as people do not live insulated from their environments. Through this holistic method, I am able to re-position their approach to life.

Background

I studied in Buenos Aires, Argentina and I finished my registration as a Psychologist in Canada upon immigration in 1999.

I specialize in the psychoanalytic treatment of various types of pains such as depression, anxiety, work stress, existential, post-traumatic stress disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, anger management, chronic pain and couple challenges among others.

In the work I do with clients I aim at separating the inevitable “pain” that is inherent to human existence from the optional “suffering” (optional means not that we choose to suffer, it means raising awareness of other options of coping).

Separating “pain” from ”suffering” in this context has to do with empowering clients to deal with the unavoidable pain of life in ways that are fulfilling, promote self-actualization and growth, foster resilience, freedom and creativity.

Throughout the course the psychoanalytical repositioning experience, I help clients with the development of an internal transformation that lets go of the suffering and promotes “healing”.

I complement the use of psychoanalysis as a main modality of work with approaches such as cognitive and dialectical behavior, solution focused and narrative therapies.

I call the combination of the use of psychoanalysis and pragmatic perspectives like the ones cited above: “Re-positioning”

Re-positioning consists of a learning process of self-awareness and change of attitude.
